AGHAVELYAN ALEKSANDR MINAS (born in 1951, Yerevan), Proctologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, since 1998 Academician at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Russia (Armenian Branch). Since 1999 head of the newly created chair of National Institute of Public Health of the RA, since 2006 proctologist head of the Ministry of Health of the RA, since 2017 head of the Department of Colo-proctology at the Medical Center "Astghik".

In 1968 completed the Pushkin Secondary School in Yerevan, from 1968 to 1974 studied at the Faculty of Medicine of the Yerevan State Medical Institute.

In 1974, he spent his internship in surgical specialty on the basis of the republican clinical hospital of Yerevan.

In 1980, he entered the cycle of studies preparing for the defense of the proctology candidate thesis of the Moscow Central Training Institute of Physicians.

In 1983 under the direction of Academician Fedorov defended his thesis on the subject "Reconstructive operations and rehabilitation in patients suffering from colostoma, following the resection of the rectum" and obtained the rank of candidate in the medical sciences.

In 1994, he defended his doctoral thesis on "The treatment of colorectal peritonitis by the laparotomy method, using polymeric materials" and received the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences.

Since 1975, worked as a surgeon at the Ashtarak Regional Hospital, then in the treatment unit N130 of the Metsamor community in the Hoktemberyan area.

From 1979 to 1980 worked as a proctologist in the proctology department of the 8th Clinical Hospital of Yerevan.

In 1984, he worked as an assistant of the Department of Proctology at the Yerevan Medical Training Institute under the direction of L. Nazarov - founder of the Armenian School of Colo-proctologists.

 From 1985 to 1998 also headed the department of operation of the large intestine of the Scientific Research Institute of Proctology of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.

In 1998, was appointed director of the Scientific Research Institute of Proctology L. Nazarov of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.

In 1999, he moved to the United States to take a two-month management course at Glendale Memorial Hospital, with the award of a manager's diploma.

From 2000 to 2017 was head of the Colo-proctology Center, Institute of Mikaelyan Surgery.

Participated in a number of training courses, in particular, the 11th International Congress of Armenian Medicine Los Angeles, USA (2013); International Conference "New technologies of malignant cancer of the rectum" (2013), Heronto International Congress of Surgery, Yerevan (2013).

Since 2000 member of the Russian Association of Colo-proctologists, and since 2015 president of the Association of Colo-Proctologists of Armenia.

Advisor of the Hospital of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.

He was awarded the medal on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Armed Forces USSR (1978), has the titles "Knight of Science and Art" (1999), Doctor Emeritus of RA (2007).

He is the author of more than 300 scientific articles, including 1 monograph, 2 licences, 8 methodological recommendations, 6 innovative proposals and 3 author certificates.
